Mathematical Thinking & Problem Solving Program
For Students of Classes 9 & 10
Trainer Profile
Program by Sharat Hegde
Sharat completed his B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi (1984–1988), securing a rank within the top 100 in the IIT-JEE.

Over the last 30+ years, he has worked extensively in the software industry across technology, systems design, and problem solving, while continuing to engage actively in mentoring and community-oriented initiatives.
Sharat tutored students in Maths during his Bachelor’s course and then again while parenting his three daughters, who now recognise the value of the foundation built during those years. He has enjoyed teaching Maths (and Physics) to his daughters, trying to correlate it to real life problems.

Program Design
Maths Unlocked is designed for students who want to strengthen conceptual understanding, improve problem-solving ability, build confidence in mathematics, and experience mathematics as an engaging and meaningful subject.
This is not a traditional tuition or coaching class. The sessions complement school learning while focusing on deeper mathematical thinking rather than syllabus completion.
It is to help students become confident thinkers, enjoy intellectual exploration, and be comfortable with mathematical reasoning.
Program Philosophy
Most students experience mathematics mainly through memorisation, repetitive practice, and formula application. While these are important, they often do not build confidence in tackling unfamiliar problems or thinking independently.
Maths Unlocked encourages students to explore ideas, recognise patterns, ask questions, explain reasoning, and try multiple approaches to solving problems.
Themes Covered
- Patterns, Sequences & Mathematical Thinking
- Numbers, Ratios & Algebraic Thinking
- Geometry & Trigonometry
- Algebra, Functions & Equations
- Coordinate Geometry & Linear Relationships
- Circles, Area & Spatial Reasoning
- Data, Probability & Decision Making
- Mathematical Exploration & Problem Solving
Each monthly module is designed to stand independently, allowing flexible participation.

Skills Students Develop
Students gradually build logical reasoning, analytical thinking, confidence with unfamiliar problems, mathematical communication, visual reasoning, abstraction and pattern recognition, and independent problem-solving ability.
These skills are valuable for school mathematics, but also for science, technology, engineering, economics, and real-world decision making.
Who is this for?
The program is suitable for students who enjoy thinking and exploring ideas, are curious about mathematics, want stronger foundations, seek greater confidence in mathematics, or want exposure to mathematical experiences.
Students do not need to already have an aptitude for maths – they will hopefully build it through the program :-). Curiosity and willingness to think are far more important.
Learning Model
The program is designed as modular monthly themes.
Students may join individual monthly modules, participate for multiple months, or continue through the academic cycle.
This provides flexibility while ensuring that each module offers a meaningful and complete learning experience.
